Get set for an Infrastructure boom

The industrial area in Chambannoor, Angamaly, is all set to get more infrastructure facilities, thanks to the Standard Design Modules (SDM), the industrial infrastructure facility developed by Infrastructure Kerala Limited (INKEL), which will be inaugurated in September. As part of providing more accessibility to the SDM, one new road is being constructed and an existing road will be widened and reconstructed.
The SDM has a total area of 2,20,000 square feet, spread across five floors. Upon allotment, at least 40 companies will start functioning from here, which demands more infrastructure facilities.
“A new road is being constructed through the TELK-NTPC campus in Angamaly to the SDM site. The estimated cost of construction is Rs 2 crore and will be completed in 18 months. The project is being jointly carried out by INKEL and the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC).
Once completed, the road will be useful not only for the companies in the SDM but also for other companies in the Chambannoor industrial area,” said N Sasidharan Nair, Executive Director, INKEL Limited.
The other road which is going to be widened and reconstructed is the short-cut route to the industrial estate from the Angamaly-Athani bus route. The road was renovated three years ago at a cost of Rs 10 lakhs. It is the only road to the Angamaly railway station and goods yard from the industrial area, and is under the Department of Industries, Kerala. If renovated, the road will be useful for South and North Chambannoor residents as well.
“At least 50 industrial units are operational in this area. The proposal to renovate the existing road has been approved by INKEL in principle. The construction of this road will not cost too much. The support from the government is also essential for the project,” said Jose Thettayil MLA.
The industrial area at Chambannoor is located at a distance of one kilometre from the Angamaly railway station, six kilometres from the Cochin International Airport and 35 kilometres from the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), Vallarpadam.
